Benslow Music in Hitchin
Benslow offer a wide range of courses for wind players from near-beginners to advanced players. Accommodation is available for longer courses. The wind tutors include our music directors.

 

Berkeley Ensemble

An annual residential chamber music course in Somerset run by an ensemble of wind and string players formed from members of Southbank Sinfonia, Britain’s young professional orchestra.

 

Big Christmas Wind Orchestra

An annual, charity fund-raising event in London for singers, wind and brass players for one afternoon of Christmas tunes and carols in December.

 

City Lit
The City Lit offers wind and chamber ensembles as well as workshop classes for clarinet and flute players from beginners to advanced players.

 

Coubertou Holiday Courses

Flute course, and wind chamber music courses in the Lot Valley, rural France in August.

 

CSSM Summer School of Music
A residential music course in Dorset including opportunities for wind chamber music and for playing in a symphonic wind band or in orchestras.

 

Dartington Summer School
Summer, residential music courses in Devon for all ages and abilities. The programme varies weekly but overall includes wind workshops and masterclasses, wind chamber music and a wind band.

 

East Anglian Single Reed Festival
This annual event has been running for over 20 years. The event attracts clarinet and saxophone players of all ages (from grade 2 upwards). Participants can enjoy playing in single-reed choirs and we as taking part in jazz and novice workshops.

 

Flutes en Vacances

Residential music courses, held regularly, for amateur flute, clarinet and saxophone players both in the UK and abroad. The courses are for all levels of players. Courses for adults are separate from those offered for younger players.

 

Harrogate Summer Schools
Courses for saxophone, clarinet and flute players. These are residential courses in Harrogate (see 'Events' on the web site).

 

Harrogate Wind Chamber Music
This is a residential course for wind musicians (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn) which has run each year for the last 30 years. 40 - 50 musicians take part.

 

Isle of Raasay solo bass clarinet, clarinet, bassoon and flute courses

The beautiful Hebridean Island of Raasay on the west coast of Scotland is a very special venue for unique music courses tutored by Sarah Watts, Lawrence Perkins and Dana Morgan.

 

Jackdaws Music Education Trust

Residential courses near Frome in Somerset. The Trust encourages musicians of all abilities to come together and learn from some of the most experienced tutors in the trade.

 

Knuston Hall
Single reed, saxophone and wind band courses over weekends or during the week in an attractive venue near Rushden in East Northamptonshire.

 

Malvern Wind Chamber Music Course

An established and popular summer course for amateur wind players in the beautiful Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, UK

 

Morley College
Morley College runs classes for winds including Flute, Clarinet and Saxophone. There are also opportunities for ensemble playing.

 

Music 4People
Music 4People (M4P) runs an annual residential course in North Yorkshire. The course provides opportunities to play wind chamber music, jazz and to perform with an orchestra, wind orchestra, sax ensemble or big band.

 

Raasay Music Courses

The Isle of Raasay bass clarinet course has been held each April since 2009, and now also has a parallel course for bassoon. Further courses for clarinet and flute are held each October. The courses take place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, set on a remote Scottish island, overlooking the Cuillin Mountains on the Isle of Skye.

 

Wind Ensemble Retreats

With tutors predominantly from the orchestra of Opera North, this is a summer retreat for woodwind & french horn players, in the idyllic setting of Parcevall Hall in the Yorkshire Dales.

 

Wind Serenades
Wind Serenades offers a range of courses for a wide range of playing standards in wind chamber music around the country.

 

Woodwind Orchestra Play Days

An annual play day in London organised by Shea Lolin who is our music director. This well-attended event is open to all orchestral instruments (minimum about grade 5 standard) - including saxophone.

 

Workers' Music Association Summer School

This is a smaller, friendly school, and unusually it features a wide variety of musics, rather than being focused on one thing. This means that there are courses for Opera, Jazz, Folk and Brass as well as the String, Wind and Orchestral courses.

 

Zamzam Music

Larry Clark Music

Duets, trios, quartets by Larry Clark in a 'compatible' series that allows chamber groups to play together, no matter the instrumentation or who wants to play melody. A member recommends them as fun pieces.

 

Reynard Music

Publishes music for clarinet, saxophone and woodwind ensemble. This includes a number of works by both established composer/arrangers such as Paul Harvey, Gordon Lewin and Carey Blyton and newcomers including Roger May, Charles Hine, Carol Taylor, Gordon Carr, Neville Favell, Sue McDowell and Claire Summerbell, as well as Michael's own compositions.

A specialist supplier of sheet music for woodwind, trumpet and mixed ensembles. Sempre Music gives instrumentalists the opportunity to play music arranged and composed as a result of many years experience of teaching in schools and performing professionally.

Membership organisations

British Double Reed Society
A society for oboe and bassoon players. The society supports the interests of all double reed players, whether students, amateurs, professionals or teachers.

 

British Flute Society
A society for flute players. Members come from all walks of life and include amateur and professional players, teachers, students, the flute trade, and people who simply love the flute.

 

Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain
A society for clarinet and saxophone players. Membership is open to all from beginners to serious students, keen amateurs and professionals and in all musical styles.

 

Making Music
The BMG is a member of Making Music which supports and encourages all kinds of music groups and individuals. We are insured through Making Music and value their guidance and information sheets.
